Graph Chat with David Hughes, Principal Solution Architect, Enterprise Knowledge
Ever get the feeling that you’re talking to an incognito wizard?
Turns out, lots of people say that after talking to David Hughes, the Principal Solution Architect for Graph and AI at Enterprise Knowledge. He might not regularly turn eavesdropping gardeners into toads, but he sure knows how to turn a messy data architecture into agent-usable knowledge, and I’ll let you sort out which one of those is more impressive. 😏
As part of this ongoing Graph Chat video series, I got to interview David at ODSC West in San Francisco. As always, David is a joy to interview because he’s constantly learning new things and excited to share them. This chat was no exception. Watch the interview below!
Graph Chat Interview with David Hughes on Multimodal GraphRAG & Agentic Observability
In this Graph Chat, David Hughes discusses the cutting edge of connected data, moving beyond the initial hype of retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) to explore how graphs are essential for the next generation of AI.
David explains the shift from simple associative search to multimodal GraphRAG – a more robust approach that captures signals from images and audio by integrating knowledge management into the graph. He then goes on to examine the need for engineering rigor in agentic AI solutions, focusing on computation graphs, memory inspection, and moving toward deterministic returns using tools like BAML and DSPy.
Finally, we ended our chat on the future of graph technology. David believes there’s an “uncomfortable but exciting” migration afoot from native graph databases to graph-based data modeling and querying within vector databases (like LanceDB).
More about Enterprise Knowledge
Enterprise Knowledge is a consulting firm that helps organizations capture, manage, and leverage their information. They operate globally, throughout the public and private sectors, to help organizations get the most out of their people and their information. Through end-to-end knowledge and data management consulting services, they focus on providing practical solutions that delight customers and employees.
EK supports a wide variety of customers, helping them harness the power of semantic layers and knowledge graphs to realize enterprise AI for their organization. Their services range from training and workshops, through “Prove It” pilots and prototypes, all the way to enterprise-level transformations.
